The Independent Policing Oversight Authority has launched investigations into the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Haila Asanake.
The incident occurred in Nairobi’s Kiamaiko – Huruma residential area on September 9, 2021.
According to preliminary information, the adolescent was killed by a bullet fired during a police operation in the area.
“The Authority has dispatched a Rapid Response Team to the area with instructions to obtain all relevant information – including from police officers – that may be relevant in unveiling the circumstances surrounding the demise of Asanake.” the statement read.
“Where fault is found, the Authority shall not hesitate to make recommendations, including but not limited to prosecution, to the relevant authorities.”
