Traders in the Ikonge area of Nyamira County are counting their losses following a fire incident.
North Mugirango police officers said they are investigating the incident.
The inferno destroyed several business premises at the market, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.
“The fire broke out at around 9 pm on Sunday night. We rushed here when he got the distress call,” a trader told Citizen Digital.
Joint efforts by the county fire brigade and locals to help put out the fire bore no fruit.
“The fire brigade team arrived at the scene about 20 minutes after the fire broke out.”
Police officer noted that a probe is ongoing to help establish the cause of the fire.
Meanwhile, traders have appealed for support to help construct their structures which were reduced to ashes.
