It was a lucky day for Kisumu traders as members of the New Life Church flocked to Kirembe grounds for a crusade led by Mombasa-based Pastor Ezekiel Odero.
Thousands of worshippers who had traveled to the lakeside city for “healing” and spiritual nourishment were served by hawkers and businessmen pitching temporary structures on both sides of the busy Kisumu-Busia highway during the three-day event.
The “Kisumu healing crusade,” which took place from Friday, April 24 to Sunday, April 26, caused a massive traffic jam as public service vehicles established new routes to serve those traveling to the event.
Local vendors and entrepreneurs took advantage of the opportunity, erecting stalls, shops, and eateries around the venue, which is located next to Kisumu International Airport.
Food vendors reported brisk sales of dishes such as ugali, chapati, fish, and beans, as hawkers made large sales of snacks, soft drinks, and water to keep customers cool in Kisumu’s increased heat and scorching sun.
Many vendors thanked the evangelist for organizing the event in Kisumu and providing them with a fantastic opportunity.
‘’We are so thankful to the man of God for bringing us the word of God here in Kisumu, I came here yesterday to receive the word of God and also sell foodstuffs to the attendees,” said Millicent Anyango.
