Treasury Set To Read Out 2022/23 Budget

On April 7, the National Treasury will release the budget statement for 2022-23.

As President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government comes to an end, it will be the last such ceremony for National Treasury Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yatani.

The CS announced on Monday that the Budget Release for FY 2022/23 will be delivered on Thursday, April 7, at 3 p.m., according to a statement.

The presentation comes just weeks after Treasury Principal Secretary Julius Muia asked for public input and proposals on policy and tax measures for the fiscal plan 2022-2023.

Other suggestions include specific strategies to speed up recovery for the private sector and micro, small, and medium-sized firms (MSMEs), as well as advice on how to create a favorable business environment and ways to increase revenue mobilization.

In order to speed economic recovery and enhance livelihoods, the report will include recommendations on how to hasten the implementation of the government’s main programs under the Big Four agenda.

Other ideas include how to involve young people and women in expediting a long-term economic recovery, as well as how to manage public resources wisely and successfully combat corruption.

Mr Yatani presented a Sh3.6 trillion budget last year, which was meant to consolidate Mr Kenyatta’s 10-year legacy in a difficult economic environment marred by reduced corporate and family earnings and uncertainty emanating from the Covid-19 outbreak.
