Two women have been charged in a Nairobi court for allegedly obtaining money by false pretences after they were accused of conning a man out of Ksh 330,000 by falsely promising him employment within the National Police Service.
Jane Chelang’a Chepkonga and Everlyne Jepchirchir Rotich were arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts following their arrest on December 9, 2025.
According to the prosecution, the two, together with others not before the court, allegedly committed the offence on December 8, 2025, within Nairobi County.
The prosecution stated that the suspects deceptively claimed they could secure a job for the complainant, Isaac Mworsho, in the police service, leading him to part with the substantial sum. It was later discovered that the alleged offer was fraudulent.
The accused were arrested on December 9 and presented in court on December 10, where they were formally charged with obtaining money by false pretences .
During the brief court session, the prosecution listed key witnesses, including the complainant Isaac Mworsho, CPL Lumwachi, and Shadrack Mnangat Ngolesia. Additional witnesses are expected to be named as the case progresses.
The court granted each of the two accused cash bail of Ksh 150,000, accompanied by two contact persons each.
Alternatively, they may secure release on a bond of Ksh 300,000 each, with one surety of a similar amount.
Both women will remain in custody until they meet the bail or bond conditions.
The matter has been scheduled for pre-trial on January 19, 2026, when the court will confirm whether all parties are ready to proceed to full hearing.
The case adds to the growing number of fraud incidents linked to fake job recruitment syndicates targeting desperate jobseekers across the country, particularly those seeking positions in disciplined forces.
