UDA, Azimio To Square In Special Sitting

Members of parliament are expected to attend a special sitting to finalize a bill that has caused emotions among UDA and Azimio allied legislators.

In a notice published on the dailies by Speaker Justin Muturi, Parliament will finalize the contentious Political Parties Amendment bill in the special sitting gazetted for 5th to 7th January 2022.

The bill has caused sharp division in the house, with spouts of violence and heckling witnessed in Parliament in an earlier sitting.

UDA MPs oppose the bill on grounds that the clauses are illegal and seek to benefit the Azimio wing, which is fronting for an opportunity to form a coalition party.

MPs allied to Raila Odinga’s presidential bid, say the bill will sort out issues arising from parties, but their counterparts disagree.

Minority leader John Mbadi was suspended from five house sittings after punching a fellow legislator.

The debate dragged deep into the night, a strategy employed by the UDA allied MPs to delay the process.
