Uhuru nominates Sports CS Amina for plum job

Kenya, has nominated Sports Cabinet Secretary AMB. Amina C. Mohamed for the post of WTO Director-General – By Gerald Gekara.

If successful, CS Amina will succeed the current Director-General, Mr Roberto Azevêdo, who announced he will step down on 31 August 2020.

The nomination period for the position is expected to close on 8 July 2020.

Shortly after, candidates will be invited to meet with members at a special General Council meeting, present their views and take questions from the membership.

Other women who have been nominated to the position include Ms Yoo Myung-hee from South Korea, and Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala from Nigeria.

The nominated women will face off other nominated male candidates including Mr Jesús Seade Kuri (Mexico), Mr Abdel-Hamid Mamdouh (Egypt), and Mr Tudor Ulianovschi (Moldova).
