Ukraine claims 400 Russian soldiers were killed in a missile attack on the occupied Donetsk region.
The missile was aimed at a building in Makiivka, where Russian forces were believed to be stationed.

A number of Russian commentators and bloggers acknowledged the attack but claimed the number of victims was lower than claimed.
In addition to the estimated 400 killed, 300 people were injured, according to the Ukrainian military.
According to the Russian-installed administration, at least 25 rockets were fired at the region on New Year’s Eve overnight.
The attack occurred shortly after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, expressed his desire for victory and a “return to normalcy” in Ukraine in 2023.
President Vladimir Putin stated on Russian television in his New Year’s address that Russia would fight to protect its sovereignty and independence.
