The construction of a modern Market in Ngong town, Kajiado County is nearing completion, with Housing, Urban Development and Public Works PS saying it will be open for business on August 31, 2020 – By Gerald Gekara.
In a tweet detailing the progress of the market, PS. Charles Hinga said the market would serve Ngong ‘for years to come’.
“Of the 7 mega markets we have undertaken in the last 2 years in the metropolis, this one ranks very high, it will transform & redefine Ngong Town for years to come.” quoted Charles Hinga.
The Ksh745 Million project is financed by the World Bank through the Nairobi Metropolitan Services Improvement Programme (NAMSIP). The works were launched in 2019 by Kajiado Governor Joseph Ole Lenku, alongside Transport Cabinet Secretary Eng. James Macharia.
The construction of the market will accommodate over 3000 traders, and to mitigate traffic build-ups at the congested Ngong Road, the state has laid down plans for road expansion, as well as a newly completed bus station.
