The Waiguru impeachment argument has brought forth many surprises within Kenya’s political circles, after it emerged that the bubbly Kirinyaga Governor was voted from the top seat. Days before, one only needed to sing the BBI tune in order to appease the treacherous arm of the law.
However, this did not go as planned.. A staggering 23 Members of the County assembly voted Waiguru out, for ‘gross abuse of Office charges.
After the Court declining to grant her request to stop the vote, Waiguru was left with no choice, but to contact the Capitol Hill.
The Capitol Hill based opposition party always kept the government on toes on matters policy, and standing in for the mwananchi, to picket against atrocities committed by its rivals.
However, the unannounced Handshake that took some of its partners in the National Super Alliance by surprise, saw an abrupt end to the vibrant opposition outfit.
From the Teargas Mondays, to the Raila Homecoming, to the illegitimate swearing in of ‘the People’s President (crimes that amount to treason charges), the handshake saw an end to constant nagging orchestrated by Raila Odinga, that attempted to taint Uhuru Legacy.
Fast forward to 2020, Raila made peace with his new ally, Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru. The meeting that saw her withdraw her defamation case against Raila.
You see, Raila led the country in baying for the blood of Waiguru, who was clouded with a 900Million National Youth Service Corruption charge.
She had filed a defamation case against Raila, for publicly labeling her as a thief in 2015 after the ODM leader demanded the then Devolution CS be prosecution for graft. It is the pressure from the ODM leader saw her resign as Devolution CS.
Now, as Waiguru rallies support from the hidden hands, Raila and his allies stand at crossroads, whether to support the governor or disown her and uphold the war against her alleged malpractices.
In the conspicous meeting held in the dead of the night, Waiguru sought Raila’s audience to shoot down the motion that could seal her fate in the senate.
However, denying the existence of that meeting, speculation is rife that the NASA party will sort to support the embattled governor.
Vocal Kirinyaga Women Rep, Purity Ngirici has cautioned Raila against ‘standing in the way of justice’, terming that He is being used to cleanse corrupt government officials.
“The prime minister must know that Capitol Hill (his private offices in Upper hill, Nairobi) will not be the capital of corruption.
“Raila has fought for democracy in this country and should not agree to be used. We are taxpaying Kenyans and we want justice,” she said.
