State House Chief Of Staff Nzioka Waita has lauded the accelerated construction of the Makupa Causeway in Mombasa county.

Waita, who led the second group of PSs to inspect the progress of the bridge, said the project will alleviate traffic and provide a better, modern vehicular and railway crossing to replace the currently existing Makupa Causeway.

“This project will restore Mombasa to Island status, the iconic Makupa Bridge set to replace the 93yr old causeway, providing an environmentally friendly crossing for all motorists.”

The project is being constructed at a cost of KES 4.5 Billion and is currently 56% done.

The 457-metre-long bridge will factor in the old railway line as well as the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) track.
