The Ministry of Interior and Co-ordination of National Government finally cleared the air on a story titled Inside the Kamiti Maximum Prison ‘Call Center’.

The Kenya Prison Service through a statement issued by its General Commissioner of Prisons John Warioba said that the clip was recorded way back in 2019.

“We wish to further clarify that one David Tett, a former prisoner, who was referred to in the clip aired on 18th April, 2022 as a mastermind of the vice, was transferred from Kamiti Maximum Security Prison to Kamiti Medium Security Prison on 22nd July, 2021 from where he was eventually released on 9th September, 2021,” part of the statement read.

Wariora further stated that the Kamiti Maximum Security Prison had undertaken serious measures to enhance the security.

“Much as the Service appreciates the media for educating and informing the public about what is going on especially in our Correctional facilities, we urge that correct facts be presented. If it is a story or clips recorded in the past, like the one which is the subject of the clarification, it should be indicated so,” the statement further read.

Warioba further assured the general public that they will work to ensure that Correctional facilities live to their purpose of reforming offenders.
