Why Did Two Indians Vanish on a July Night in Kenya?

It was later revealed that the two Indians were in Kenya to assist William Ruto,  who was sworn in as the country's fifth president in September after a narrow victory.

On a July night, two Indian tourists and their local driver went missing in Nairobi.

Nine police officers have been arrested in connection with the incident, which India says it is “closely monitoring.”

Zulfiqar Ahmad Khan shared a video of a roaring lion in Kenya’s Maasai Mara game reserve, where he had been vacationing, in one of his final social media posts before disappearing.

“Mornings in Maasai Mara are magical.Consider the possibility that your first encounter is with Simba.Anyone up for breakfast? “In a typically upbeat post, he wrote.

The 48-year-old Indian media marketing executive was most recently the chief operating officer of Balaji Telefilms, a Mumbai-based television company.

According to Mr Khan’s LinkedIn profile, he is a “results-driven, people-focused business leader” with more than 19 years of experience in broadcast and digital media companies, as well as a “high energy, performance-driven coach, mentor, and manager.”

His friends described him as a “passionate sportsman, foodie, avid traveller and explorer,” as well as a cricket fan.

Mr Khan had spent a month in Kenya after quitting his job in June. His Facebook and Instagram feeds were full of photos and videos from his time in Kenya: breakfasts in Nairobi, afternoons in game parks.

Four days before he vanished, he called friends and expressed excitement about exploring Kenya.

Rajiv Dubey, a Delhi-based marketing professional who had known him for 24 years, was one of them. “He sounded overjoyed. He had just talked to some of his friends a few days before about wildlife and encouraged them to visit this ‘beautiful’ location “Mr. Dubey stated.

Mr Khan told friends that he would return home on July 24 and that he hoped to return to Kenya to witness the annual “Great Migration,” in which millions of wildebeest and herd animals migrate to the rolling grasslands of the Maasai Mara.

Mr Khan, another Indian man, and a Kenyan driver vanished on the night of July 22.

Mrs Kidwai went to the police the next day and reported her missing husband and Mr Khan.

She also went to the bar to look for the CCTV footage, which showed the two Indians leaving around one a.m. and getting into a Toyota sedan.

Friends launched a petition seeking Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s assistance in finding Mr Khan after the Kenyan police appeared to be making no progress and after 70 days of waiting.

It was later revealed that the two Indians were in Kenya to assist William Ruto,  who was sworn in as the country’s fifth president in September after a narrow victory.

According to an affidavit filed by the police in court on Monday, the taxi carrying the Indians was forcibly stopped on a Nairobi road by a group of men driving a Subaru vehicle. The Indians and their driver were then kidnapped and driven 150 kilometers (93 miles) from the city to the Aberdare forest, where they were allegedly killed and “their bodies were dumped.”

According to the affidavit, there are at least four suspects, including one man who planned a similar kidnapping of three other people in Nairobi.
