A Kiambu woman accused of robbing her employer of Sh 4 million was detained by police officers on Tuesday at a witchdoctor’s house where she allegedly went to “seek protection” from arrest.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Miriam Mwelu was arrested at the witch doctor’s house in Gachie with her partner Timothy Akoi.
Upon arrival at the house, the sleuths were met with a frightful scene as they found Mwelu being immersed in a basin containing a concoction of blood drawn from a dead fowl, whose features resembled those of a cockerel.
“Upon noticing the detectives, the elderly witch doctor pronounced endless incantations in an attempt to keep them at bay, but that did not deter the sleuths from executing their mission much to the bemusement of [the suspect], who had closed her eyes expecting the sleuths to vanish,” the statement read in part.
“She couldn’t come to terms with reality after the in-charge of the operation told her ‘mama bado tuko hapa vaa nguo twende‘ (mom where are still he dress up, we leave).”
An assembly of charms including horns, feathers and cowrie shells were recovered.
The DCI added that the witch doctor was offering, alongside a long list of services, protection from ‘Kutoshikwa na DCI’.

Mwelu later led the detectives to her parents’ home in Ithanga, Murang’a county, where a wad of cash amounting to Sh1.57 million and jewelry reportedly stolen from her employer were recovered.
