As the dispute over the legality of his coronation rages on, National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi has dared rogue MPs attempting to impeach him.

Muturi told the press on Sunday, June 6, that he had not heard of any parliamentarians trying to oust him, but he dared them to do so.

“There is no impeachment of the speaker. The only option is for the Parliament to pass a vote of no confidence. We have the rules that are supposed to be followed and they are open. Whoever will hit the threshold should try.”

He also stated that he will remain in office since he has spent more years in politics than the majority of parliamentarians.

Muturi was reacting to rumors that a segment of the August House was considering impeaching him in the aftermath of the uproar from elders and leaders over his coronation as Mt Kenya spokesman.

Two groups of Kikuyu elders cleansed the Mukuruwe wa Nyagathanga shrine on Friday, June 4 – a week after a ceremony to coronate National Assembly speaker Justin Muturi.

The two groups from the Kikuyu council of elders and Kiama Kia Ma are reported to have spent three hours at the shrine praying and performing a sacrifice in order to purify the shrine.
