Driver Charged With Smuggling Ethanol

A driver and a turn boy have been charged with smuggling ethanol worth KShs.1.2 million at Nakuru law court.

Walter Wawiye Dimbe (driver) and Francis Odhiambo (turn boy) appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate Hon Isaac Orenge and were charged with being in possession of unaccustomed goods and conveying un-customed goods, both in violation of the East African Community Customs Management Act (EACCMA) of 2004.

The two were arrested when a white Mitsubishi FH was intercepted with a shipment carrying 15 drums of 250 liters each of substance thought to be ethanol on Thursday, November 11th, 2021 at around 5.30 p.m., the two accused suspects were apprehended.

The suspected ethanol had been concealed in between 116 bags of ninety kilogrammes of porridge flour and five bags of ninety kilogrammes of simsim.

The two had no authorization documents for the suspect product in their possession.

The two denied the charges and were each released on a bond of Kshs 300,000 or a cash bail of KShs 150,000. The case will be mentioned on 30th November 2021.
