IPOA: Four Policemen Face Murder Charges

A magistrate’s court has ordered four officers to be charged with the murder of two civilians in Nairobi and Mombasa counties.

In a statement to Uzalendo News, the Independent Policing Oversight Authority said the four will be charged for the deaths of Mr. Said Muktar Ibrahim and Mr. Leonard Mramba, who were fatally wounded during separate incidents.

The former was shot dead at Korogocho, Nairobi on November 12, 2017 and the latter succumbed to injuries sustained during an arrest at Kisauni, Mombasa on August 15, 2013.

In Mombasa, Mr. Muramba’s demise was subjected to an inquest at the Magistrate’s Court.

Police Sergeant Charles Mwakio and Police Corporal Julia Kimbiyo will be charged with manslaughter, while Police Constable Peter Kananu be subjected to a disciplinary proceeding for negligence in the performance of duty.

In Nairobi, Mr Ibrahim’s demise would be disposed of through a murder trial.

Police Constable Lewis Nguyo Msuya who was arrested on Friday, October 22, 2021 is in custody awaiting judiciary proceedings.

On Monday, October 25, 2021, he was arraigned at the Milimani law courts where his detention was extended by ten (10) days during which the officer will undergo mental assessment.

The Authority has engaged the police command to have another Police officer– a Sergeant – arrested for the offence of accessory after an act of murder.
