Former Lamu Governor Cleared To Vie, Calls For Peaceful Campaigns

Former Lamu Governor Issa Timamy has. called for political tolerance ahead of the August General Election.

He spoke after he was cleared by the IEBC to vie for the seat in August.

Mr Timammy Who was accompanied by his Deputy Governor Raphael Ndung’u and hundreds of his supporters arrived at the Lamu port with songs and dance as supporters chanted Timammy our Governor.

Immediately after he completed the clearance process and handed over the certificate by the Lamu County Returning Officer (CRO) Maro Ade Timammy told journalists that he would revive the economy of Lamu once elected governor as the current regime had messed up and failed to deliver to the people.

“Me and my deputy we have just presented our papers and we are happy with the professionalism of the staff of IEBC, the CRO, and his team, and we are very impressed by the thoroughness,” he said.

He said in November this year he would revive the Lamu cultural festivals and announced that the first one would be a mega fete that has never been witnessed in the history of Lamu.

In his speech, the Former Governor who is contesting for the seat in Amani National Congress Party (ANC) called on residents and rival politicians to shun divisive and hateful politics.

He particularly noted with concern about the spread of hatred through social media saying elections would come and go but the Lamu people must remain united and peaceful.

The issue of insults on social media has become too much and I would urge all of us to have a discussion on policies, and how to transform the lives of the Lamu people

“Elections will be 0on August 9 and pass but we will remain to be neighbors, brothers, and Lamu people so I would urge Lamu people not to be divided by politics everyone has a right to vote for their preferred candidate,” he said.

He said there was a need for people to maintain friendship even if one does not support another one’s candidate as it is his right and democratic.

On the clearance, Timammy said they came very prepared with all documents required for both him and his Deputy who had the relevant papers.

“This is evident that we have now been cleared to stand for elections come the ninth of August 2022,” he said.

Timammy said he would launch his manifesto soon which in a nutshell entails improving health standards, education, and the economy.

He said they are in the Kenya Kwanza coalition which aims at improving the economy and uplifting the standards of living for the people by ensuring farmers, fishermen, those working in the tourism sector, pastoralists and those doing small businesses such as mama mboga, Bodaboda, porters, saloons among others are going to be supported.

“We have plans to boost their businesses so as to transform their livelihoods so I would like to thank all the people of Lamu today we did not have a big ceremony because I lost my mum recently so I did not want the fact that I lost her recently to have celebrations and dance,” he said.

Other Candidates who will be cleared tomorrow and the day after include Fahim Twaha the incumbent governor, Umra Omar of Safina Party, and Eric Mugo of Narc Kenya.
