Kenyans To Pay More For Milk, Sugar

Due to rising producer costs in the market, all processors have increased the cost of milk by between Sh3 and Sh5 for both fresh and long life brands.

Following the latest adjustment by processors, consumers may now purchase a 500ml packet of milk for Sh60, up from Sh55 before for extended life and Sh55 for fresh kind.

In August, Kenya’s year-on-year inflation rate increased to 6.57 percent from 6.55 percent a month earlier, owing to an increase in food prices.

Processors have raised the price of the commodity to customers for the first time in over a year.

The increase comes just days after the price of sugar in retail outlets increased by Sh30 for a two kilogramme packet, owing to mill outages, according to the state.
