Furniture traders who arrived at the scene tried to put out the fire in a bid to rescue their businesses. They lamented the rising accidents pegged on overspeeding motorists and poor road markings.

They called on road authorities to safeguard road users by erecting bumps and clear road signage.

The accident comes in the wake of a notice by the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) for businesses operating on the roadside to vacate, as they are accused of invading road reserves.
