DCI officers in Kandara, Muranga County are holding a a 65-year-old woman over the chilling murder of her husband.
The deceased, Ndung’u Mugachia, 99 had his throat slit and head smashed by the wife, 32 years his junior.
The woman was identified as Margaret Wanjiru.
The incident shocked residents of Ndururumo village in Kigumoini, Murang’a county, following the early morning incident.
Wanjiru killed her husband using a machete by slitting his throat open and leaving his body sprawled on the floor.

Mugachia was born in 1922 and was in the twilight years of his life.
He had just woken up and was warming himself by the fire in his son’s house when the wife attacked.
The deceased’s daughter-in-law Betty Wanyoike told Kandara detectives that the suspect had picked a quarrel with her husband, before she dashed to the kitchen and came back wielding a machete. She then slit her husband’s neck open and dealt him a final blow, by hacking his head just above the right ear.
Scenes of crime detectives moved the deceased’s body to Gaichanjiru Catholic mission hospital mortuary, awaiting autopsy.
