Police Intensify Crackdown on Illicit Brews in Kisumu, Nakuru and Vihiga

The National Police Service has intensified operations targeting illicit alcohol and drug networks, with fresh crackdowns reported in Kisumu, Nakuru and Vihiga counties.

In Kisumu County, officers from Kisumu Central Police Station conducted patrols within Kisumu Municipality, where they dismantled two chang’aa brewing sites.

At the first site, police recovered approximately 400 litres of kangara concealed in a thicket and believed to be intended for distillation.

At a second location, officers seized a larger consignment of 1,700 litres of kangara, alongside three metal drums that were actively being used in the brewing process.

In a separate but coordinated operation in Nakuru County, officers from Mau Summit Police Station in Kuresoi North Sub-County, working with members of the community policing unit, carried out a targeted raid at Kuwait Stream.

During the operation, 800 litres of kangara hidden in bushes along the stream were discovered and destroyed.

Meanwhile, in Vihiga County, police intercepted 40 litres of suspected chang’aa that was being transported, preventing its circulation within the region.

Police say the operations form part of a broader enforcement strategy combining routine patrols, intelligence-led action and community collaboration to dismantle illegal brewing networks.

The National Police Service has reiterated its commitment to sustaining the crackdown and urged members of the public to continue sharing information that could lead to arrests and prosecution of those involved.
