AFC LEOPARDS CHAIRMAN VOWS TO SUE FKF IF GOR ARE DECLARED KPL CHAMPIONS 2019/20 SEASON

Football Kenya federation may declare Gor Mahia champions for the season 2019/20 if a concrete working plan on how to end the league does not work amid Coronavirus pandemic.
This has however not gone well with league rivals AFC Leopards Chairman Dan Shikanda. He has vowed to sue FKF at the sports dispute tribunal, over what he termed non-existing laws that will hand Gor the trophy.

Shikanda has accused FKF President Nick Mwendwa of seeking to endear himself to K’Ogalo fans so as to achieve his political agenda by using unpopular FKF laws to push for the reigning champions to be handed a fourth straight KPL title if the league doesn’t resume due to the virus.

“I will take a case to the SDT if Gor Mahia is handed the trophy in any case the league doesn’t resume. This is not a tournament but a league and if it is not completed then it should be declared null and void,” said Shikanda.

“I have asked the chairmen of more than half of clubs in KPL about this law being quoted by Mwendwa and all of them told me they are not aware of their existence neither were they informed of them at the beginning of the season.”

Tusker Chairman David Aduda voiced his concern saying, “Whatever is happening with the pandemic is not unique to Kenya. Fifa has been flexible as to how to handle this situation and so we have to tread carefully. It shouldn’t get political because it will ultimately get controversial.”

Gor Mahia currently leads the standings with 54 points from 23 matches, seven points ahead of second-placed Kakamega Homeboyz who have played a game less.
Tusker, Ulinzi, KCB, and Leopards occupy the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth positions respectively.

Chemelil and Sony Sugar are 17th and 18th on the standings and look set to be relegated even if the remaining league matches are played.
KPL and FKF from recent statements are seen to have contradicting views on how to end the league that remains suspended since match 16 with 9 rounds of matches to be played.
