France Makes Last Minute Changes To World Cup Squad

Axel Disasi, a defender from Monaco who has never played professionally, has been called up to the team in place of injured PSG center-back Presnel Kimpembe.

Marcus Thuram is the 26th and last player to be called up by France manager Didier Deschamps for the host nation’s World Cup team.

Thuram, a forward for Borussia Moenchengladbach who played alongside Deschamps in the team that won the 1998 World Cup on home soil, and his father Lilian Thuram, a former France defender, are the manager’s final additions to the squad after he initially named 25 players before Monday night’s deadline.

Axel Disasi, a defender from Monaco who has never played professionally, has been called up to the team in place of injured PSG center-back Presnel Kimpembe.

Deschamps had left room for one extra squad member to be added as he monitored fitness issues within his squad, and on Monday morning it became apparent that Thuram will be that player, while Kimpembe was ruled out having played less than an hour of football since September 18.

A tweet from France’s official Twitter account appeared to confirm the news on Thuram, only to be swiftly deleted ahead of an announcement to come later in the day.
