Former Kenya Electricity Transmission Company CEO Hon Fernandes Barasa campaign received a huge boost yesterday when his opponent Hon Ayub Savula, a member of parliament for the Lugari Constituency, abandoned his bid and backed him.

Senator Cleophas Malala of Musalia Mudavadi’s ANC Party and, who is running on an Orange Democratic Movement ticket, are contesting for the governorship of Kakamega.

The extraordinary agreement was negotiated by Kakamega Governor Hon Wycliffe Oparanya and Defence Cabinet Secretary Hon Eugene Wamalwa, who is also the patron of Kenya’s Democratic Action Party (DAP-K).

Savula ran for the seat on DAP-K but dropped out after being persuaded to run as Fernandes Barasa’s running mate in the August 9th elections.

The agreement reached yesterday also stated that if they win the seat, Savula will have the ability to choose five members to the County Executive Committee.

According to sources, it was also agreed that the DAP-K Party will produce the next assembly Speaker from the northern area of Kakamega, where Savula is from.

When the accord was struck, other leaders from the Orange Democratic Movement and the Democratic Action Party-Kenya were present.
