Belgian NGO Launches Massive Water Project In Kilifi

A Belgium Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) called Kitanda Organization has intensified its quest to bring water to the residents of Mitangani location, Bamba ward in Ganze constituency, Kilifi County. 

On Thursday the NGO officials met with the area MP Teddy Mwambire to explore more areas of intervention in addressing the water issue that has remained a thorny issue at Kavunzoni and in Mitangani in general. 

The meeting was attended by acting Mitangani location Chief Stephen Thethe and Fikirini Jacob, a resident of Kavunzoni. The NGO has already drilled a borehole in the area and is now planning to drill more in its bid to address the water problem. 

“I had an extensive discussion with Kitanda Organization officials an NGO from Belgium whom I have been closely associating with, together with County Water and Natural Resources Executive Kiringi Mwachitu. 

The organization has already drilled a borehole at the Kavunzoni area in Goshi sub-location in Bamba ward and together with the county government intends to establish two bigger water pans and establish water pipelines across the sub-location,” the MP said in an interview with Uzalendo News.  

The water project is expected to attract other development partners hence stimulate economic and social growth in the area. The organization has already delivered a container with assorted materials for the project and its phase two is set to start next week. 

The organization was represented by the Former Mayor of Beernem City in Belgium Mr Johan De Rucker. 

Mr. Johan said the organization is committed to address the water issues in the region and bring a long-lasting solution. He thanked the MP, the county government, and the local chief Mr. Thethe for their continued efforts to make sure that amidst the water challenges, the community remains together for prosperity.

“It’s a pleasure to have us in this area for these interventions. Water is an important commodity and if the community lacks it, then it’s a problem. I want to thank the support that you have given us in making sure that our interventions are fulfilled,” he said. 

 Mr. Johan honored the MP and Mr. Thethe with trophies as a sign of appreciating their tireless efforts to see the community in Bamba get water. 

Mr. Thethe thanked the NGO for its commitments to address water issues in the region adding that the area has experienced a huge water shortage which has literally characterized the lives of the people. 

“Your being here brings a sigh of hope and relief to the community. Kavunzoni and a big part of this location have experienced water challenges for decades but your presence now is turning the lives of our people into hopes of a better future,” said Mr. Thethe. 

“For and on behalf of the people of Ganze, convey my heartfelt gratitude to the organization’s gesture and as thus under my leadership, this constituency will ever keep on walking and working closely with all development partners for the betterment of the public,” said Mr. Mwambire.
