Radio Africa Events (RA) has issued an apology following a massive online backlash over the Boyz II Men concert on Saturday, particularly regarding the show’s sound quality, which was harshly criticised.
In a statement, the events company behind ‘Yetu Festival’ said it had “taken note of feedback” from concertgoers via various mediums.
“We would like to address the concerns and frustrations expressed especially regarding the sound quality in the General Arena at our recent concert and the other concerns raised. We sincerely apologise for falling short of your expectations with regards particularly to the sound quality and layout in the General Arena,” the statement read.
The organisers say they have launched investigations to establish the cause of the sound issues and find ways of preventing the same in future.
“We have engaged experienced sound engineers and technical experts to analyse the situation thoroughly. We are committed to rectifying these issues and ensuring that all future concerts deliver the exceptional audio and layout experience you deserve.”
On Monday, the Consumers Federation of Kenya (COFEK) invited formal complaints on Saturday night’s event headlined by the American boy band.
COFEK said it had received reports from concert-goers who said the event did not live up to their expectations, going by ticket prices.
And while some praised it as an improvement from the previous show headlined by American singer Anthony Hamilton, others told the federation that the concert was too short and poorly planned.
“COFEK has since requested revelers who attended the event and have complaints to share evidence of payment and other specific complaints they have,” the federation said.
The four-time Grammy Award winners graced the stage in an event with a hefty ticket price tag. Regular tickets were sold at Sh8,000, VIP tickets at Sh15,000, and VVIP at Sh30,000.
However, after the event, a section of fans lamented on social media after they experienced trouble with the sound as well as spilling over outside the tents.
Kenyan boy band Sauti Sol, who have since announced an indefinite break also graced the event.
