MPs Approve Noordin Haji’s Appointment As NIS Boss

The National Assembly has approved the nomination of Noordin Haji as the Director General of the National Intelligence Service.

The vote was nearly unanimous, with only Budalang’i MP Raphael Wanjala casting a dissenting vote.

“This House approves the appointment of Mr Noordin Haji OGW CBS as the Director General of the National Intelligence Service,” Speaker Moses Wetang’ula said.

The MPs commended the outgoing DG, noting that he had upheld his constitutional mandate and kept the country safe from terrorism.

The outgoing DPP was nominated for the position by President William Ruto on May 16.

“His Excellency the President has transmitted the nomination to the National Assembly for consideration by Parliament, in fulfilment of the legal requirements set out under the Constitution and the National Intelligence Service Act,” Head of Public Service Felix Koskei said in a statement then.

Haji will take his oath of office in coming days replacing Philip Kameru who is set to retire after holding NIS’ corner office since September 2014.
