Passengers will pay a single charge of Sh150 to use the bus rapid transit (BRT) system, which will begin operating in June 2021.
The fare has however been set on passengers using the Kasarani-Kenyatta National Hospital line.
The first phase will be implemented on a trial basis in the next four months, according to Nairobi Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (Namata) acting director-general Francis Gitau.
The Kasarani-Kenyatta National Hospital line, which is planned to open in June, is part of the second corridor connecting Kenol and Rongai.
Ngong Road — Juja, Mama Lucy — T-Mall, and Balozi to Imara highways are among the other motorways identified in the proposal.
Passengers will utilize a specific toll payment card to access the BRT system along multiple corridors within the Nairobi Metropolitan Area.
Before taking a journey, passengers will be issued a card with points that they must touch at termini located along each corridor.
BRT lanes will be able to accommodate up to 100 high-capacity buses, with the capacity increasing to 300 in future orders.
“The BRT system will be cashless. There will be a card that can also be used to pay for commuter rail.
The purpose of a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system is to improve public transportation in a city.
