Covid-19 cases soars, Government targets asymptomatic patients

Kenya has once again broken its ceiling on the number of cases recorded in under 24 hours, after 80 new cases were reported by the Health Ministry. – By Gerald Gekara.

In today’s briefing, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said a total of 1,109 were now infected with the coronavirus.

The Health CS Mutahi Kagwe announced the youngest case was a 6 month old baby.

The ministry announced 3,102 tests carried out in a day, totaling to 52,507 samples tested so far. CS Kagwe said that the number of samples collected will increase with the new testing kits supplied to the country.

Nairobi and Mombasa counties are still leading in terms of new cases, with 41 cases and 20 cases respectively.

The CS also lamented the laxity of Kenyans in following up regulations, citing a case of mourners who travelled to Siaya county for a funeral, further exposing 7 people to contracting coronavirus.

The ministry announced that it will deliberate on the next level of measures to be taken in order to ensure that the steady rise in cases is not consistent.
