Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has sparked political debate after declaring that Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki is destined to become Kenya’s future president.
Speaking during a panel discussion on K24 TV, Ruku heaped praise on the deputy president, describing him as a diligent and committed leader whose contributions to national development signal readiness for the top seat.
“The deputy president, Prof. Kithure Kindiki, is a man who will one day be the president of the Republic of Kenya. He is extremely diligent and a very committed Kenyan,” Ruku stated.
Ruku particularly commended Kindiki’s leadership in driving economic empowerment forums under the Kenya Kwanza administration. These initiatives aim to provide financial support and spur grassroots development among vulnerable populations.
Highlighting Kindiki’s background, Ruku noted that his elevation to deputy president despite coming from a minority community reflects both personal resilience and national acceptance. “That tells you the spirit that Prof. Kithure Kindiki carries,” he added.
The CS also defended the deputy president’s empowerment programmes from critics, including former Chief Justice David Maraga, who had questioned the sources of the funds involved. Ruku dismissed the allegations, asserting that critics lacked innovation and vision.
“For someone to say that the money is from unknown sources shows they are not thinking innovatively, even beyond the box,” Ruku said pointedly.
Rift Valley legislators and other Kenya Kwanza allies have also recently voiced their support for Kindiki, lauding his role in championing economic empowerment, affordable housing, and youth-focused initiatives. They took the opportunity to criticize former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka, accusing him of peddling “cheap politics” devoid of a tangible development agenda.
The political endorsement by Ruku adds to growing speculation about Kindiki’s rising influence within the Kenya Kwanza coalition and his potential bid for the presidency in the years ahead.
