The Kenya Diaspora Alliance (KDA) has laid down plans to promote talent among creatives, in a bid to boost Kenya’s post-COVID-19 economy. – By Gerald Gekara.

In a webinar organized in conjunction with the Kenya Film Classification Board, the KDA urged state agencies to leverage on new technologies to create opportunities.

Dr. Ezekiel Mutua,KFCB Chair, urged stakeholders with the support of KDA, to avail resources for talent development.

“Collaborations with international organizations and Kenyans in the diaspora will spur new opportunities to empower our communities with new avenues for job creation,” said Dr. Mutua.

Mutua added that KFCB will work tirelessly in order to support collaborations, partnerships, and engagements with both local and global markets.

“With the Government playing its role of ensuring we have a conducive environment through progressive legislation, private investors must commit time and resources to the economy, especially the creative sector. “

While outlining the importance of promoting socially ethical content, Mutua stressed the need to support clean content, so as to protect Kenya’s morals.

“Filmmakers must change their mindset and know that content does not have to be dirty in order to sell or entertain. Our artistes must start creating content that inspires hope, family values and integrity.” he concluded.

KFCB has also put in plans to ensure proper health protocols are followed in order to facilitate the reopening of film theatres.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has adversely affected the creative sector in Kenya. @InfoKfcb is collaborating with cinema operators to develop a framework that is in line with the @MOH_Kenya protocols for re-opening of cinema theatres.”
