FIDA weighs in on BBI, government to focus on COVID-19

International Federation of Women Lawyers, commonly known as FIDA-Kenya has urged the government to put aside referrendum talks and engage COVID-19 – By Lynn Kyalo.

While speaking at a press conference, FIDA chairperson Nancy Ikinu said the focus of all government resources should be fighting the Pandemic that has so far claimed the lives of many Kenyans, including hesalth workers.

“There is only one crisis in kenya which is Covid-19 and so the government should focus and channel all efforts into it and not the referendum considering we have an ongoing strike.” said Nancy.

FIDA continued to discarded the referrendum push saying the 2010 Constitution has been the most progressive document and ensured that women aspirations are articulated.

Nancy added that there are only 21 months to the General elections in 2022 and any referendum exercise before then will only serve as a distraction and polarize an already ailing society.
