Floods – Scores In Trans Nzoia Left Homeless

Following the region’s torrential rains, more than 100 households in Namanjalala, Trans Nzoia County, have been left homeless.

Ronald Masindano, a Kenya Red Cross official, said there are concerns about waterborne infections as a result of the significant floods.

This comes as the Sabwani River burst its banks, leaving a path of destruction in its wake.

“We are appealing to well-wishers to come to the aid of the affected families, especially those living along the river bank,” Masindano said.

Locals have called on the county administration to help avert further crisis even as they move to safer ground.

“”The floods have destroyed our homes and crops. It is unfortunate that the heavy rains have swept away the little we had,” a resident added.

A forecast by the Kenya Meteorological Department showed possible flooding may occur over some parts of the Highlands West of the Rift Valley and North-Western Kenya.
