Kenya has issued a global tender for the construction of a Covid-19 vaccine manufacturing plant as it nears the completion of the process of producing the vaccine locally.
The state is looking for a consultant and a company to help them design, develop, commission, and maintain a fully functional vaccine manufacturing facility.
The Kenya BioVax Institute, a state-owned commercial and manufacturing enterprise, announced the tender in advertising.
The tender comes just three months after President Uhuru Kenyatta revealed that Kenya has begun construction on a filling plant for Covid-19 vaccines in April, with a full manufacturing capability expected by 2024.
“To achieve this objective, the Government of Kenya desires to recruit a GMP consultant and a firm to design-build-commission-maintain a fully-fledged vaccine manufacturing facility,” a public notice, signed by the director-general Kenya BioVax Institute states.
