Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe has come out to condemn ‘naysayers’ who are fighting the ministry’s efforts to combat the coronavirus.
While responding to allegations of misappropriating funds rendered to him to fight the pandemic, Mutahi Kagwe lashed out claiming he has no business in benefiting from Covid-19 funds.
For instance he explained that all costs incurred are subject to auditing and echoing President Uhuru’s sentiments that anyone found corrupt will be charged accordingly.
“Anybody culpable of even Ksh. 1 from the covid-19 fund, will not be spared. When you say Ksh. 42 Million for ambulance, first of all, Ksh. 5 M is tax. It is good to put things in perspective” said Kagwe.
The CS also announced that he has never involved himself in businesses with the government, rubbishing claims that he is getting tenders to supply advertising through private companies.
“I have never conducted any business not only with this ministry, any ministries… It is my policy at least when i was running businesses.. I got my eyes on the ball and i know what iam doing” CS Kagwe said.
CS Kagwe came under fire for the Coronavirus pandemic, but assured Kenyans that any misappropriation would be investigated.
For instance, tea and snacks budget had been set at Ksh.10 Million, and it was reported that Ksh.4 Million has been spent.
Ambulances were hired at a cost of 42 Million collectively according to the budget. The cost of fueling and maintaining 30 vehicles at a rate of Ksh.40,000 per motor vehicle is Ksh. 14.4m with the budget indicating that the Ministry has spent Ksh.2.3 Billion to deal with the pandemic.
