High Court Pauses Case Against Murgor Sisters

The High Court has today suspended the prosecution of two sisters; Stephanie and Cheryll Murgor at the Kibera Law Courts pending the hearing of an application challenging their prosecution.

The two sisters were involved in a conflict with twin brothers; Edward Ndichu and Paul Ndichu at a hotel in Nairobi in October last year.

Justice Antony Mrima on Monday stayed the proceedings at the magistrate court.

This comes a week after the sisters were summoned to appear in court on 23rd March 2022.

“Pending hearing and determination, inter partes of this application, an order is issued staying the criminal proceedings against the petitioners herein in the magistrate’s court” reads the ruling in part.

The sisters claim that the move by the Directorate of Public Prosecution to charge them is purely intended to blackmail them and coerce them into withdrawing their complaints against the Ndichu sons.

Further, Noordin Haji is accused of ignoring applications from the sisters and FIDA to drop the charges.

The prosecution office on 9th December 2021 chose to charge one of the two sisters with assault as well as fighting in public. This is in line with a case where the sisters accused twin brothers; Edward Ndichu and Paul Ndichu of assaulting them.

Further directions on the case will be issued on March 31, 2022.
