Three people in Homa Bay County’s Rangwe and Rachuonyo East Sub-counties committed suicide for various reasons.

The first occurrence occurred on Sunday when a 44-year-old village elder committed suicide after a disagreement with his family about a lady he had inherited as a wife in the same community.

Dancun Oluoch Ongo’ga hanged himself from an avocado tree outside his parents’ house with a rope a few hours after assaulting and gravely injuring his other wife, who was opposed to his relationship with the woman he inherited.

Area Assistant Chief Chrisphine Onyango said the deceased inherited the woman after his first wife died in March this year and other family members were against the relationship.

The deceased is said to have left a suicide noting indicating that he loved the wife he inherited forever and was not happy that his other wife and his family members never wanted him to continue being with the said woman.

The body was taken to Homa Bay Referral Hospital mortuary.

In the second incident which also happened on Sunday, a 31-year-old man took his own life at Kariany village in Rachuonyo East Sub County over unknown reasons.

The body of Collins Odhiambo was found dangling from the top of a roof inside the house of his elder brother where he had been sleeping.

Kawuor Location Chief Samwel Okoko said that they were yet to establish why Odhiambo took his life.

Elsewhere, a middle-aged man who could not be immediately identified committed suicide on Saturday under unclear circumstances at Kabonyo Village within the same Sub County.
