IEBC Rushes To Appoint New CEO

Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission is on a mission to fill the vacant CEO position currently held by Hussein Marjan in an acting capacity.

Since April of this year, Marjan has been acting in the position.

His ascension began when IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati named him as the repeat presidential election coordinator in October 2017.

The advertisement requesting applications for the position states, “All applications must be submitted no later than close of business on January 21, 2022.”

However, election stakeholders are concerned about the selection of a CEO only eight months before the election.

Eight senior election officers, a Turkana county accountant, a supply chain management assistant, and assistant election officials are among the positions sought by the commission.

The new listing might lead to political squabbles and court battles, perhaps delaying the election process in 2022.

There has not been a CEO in charge of IEBC since Ezra Chiloba resigned.

He is currently the Director-General of the Communication Authority of Kenya.
