Interviews For Kenya’s Next Chief Justice Begin

Interviews for Kenya’s next President of the Supreme Court, and Chief Justice have begun in Nairobi. – By Gerald Gekara.

Justice Chitembwe Said Juma appeared before the Judiciary Service Commission (JSC) on Monday 13, 2021 as the first candidate on the hotseat.

The interviews will be carried out for the better part of April, with JSC promising to unveil its preferred candidate by May 2021.

Here are the ten candidates shortlisted for the CJ job:

  1. Justice Said Chitembwe
  2. Prof Patricia Mbote
  3. Justice Martha Koome
  4. Justice Marete Njagi
  5. Philip Murgor
  6. Justice Nduma Nderi
  7.  Fred Ngatia
  8. Justice William Ouko
  9. Dr Wekesa Moni
  10. Alice Yano

Out of the ten candidates, only one will be selected to replace Justice David Maraga who retired after attaining the 70-Year retirement age.

The position is currently being held by Justice Philomena Mwilu in an acting capacity.
