The Kakamega County government has identified 100 sites in public places to install free Wi-Fi for use by the public.
The areas include Muliro Gardens, Bukhungu Stadium, Mwiyala primary school in Lurambi and Musoli Primary school in Ikolomani among other sites.
The County Executive Committee Member for ICT, E-government and Communication Ms. Rechael Atamba said the Wi-Fi to be installed at Muliro Gardens will cover a radius of 100 meters.
A feasibility study has already been conducted and installation works have begun. “Once installed, youths will benefit from the free Wi-Fi as well as business people who will access government services offered digitally,” she noted.
The CEC said the two installed Wi-Fi at Mwiyala and Musoli are complete awaiting commissioning.
The programme is being undertaken in partnership with the National Government on last mile internet connectivity. “The collaboration will go a long way in enhancing service delivery and access to government information and services by residents,” she noted.
