As part of its diversification strategy, listed agricultural firm Kakuzi has partnered with Driscoll’s, a berries marketing company based in the United States, to export blueberries.
The collaboration will see Kakuzi export the produce to European, Middle Eastern, and Far Eastern markets.
According to Chris Flowers, managing director of Kakuzi, the commercial blueberry trials that began two years ago have yielded some exciting results that will guide the firm’s future investments and expansion for the crop.
Kakuzi disclosed in the 2021/22 period that the company’s Blueberry production had increased in the previous fiscal year. The current blueberry crop has been completely sold in both the domestic and export markets.
According to Garland Reiter, Driscoll’s vice president of global blueberry leadership, the developments at Kakuzi heralded the beginning of blueberry exports to the international market.
Driscoll’s is the world’s largest fresh strawberry, blueberry, raspberry, and blackberry supplier.
Kakuzi plans to continue developing a variety of additional value-added consumer products for the domestic and regional markets as part of its revenue diversification strategy.
