The Kenya National Highways Authority spent the better part of the weekend finalizing the hoisting of ultra-modern footbridge Garden City – By Enock Mukoma.

The exercise saw the coordinated closure of sections of the highway. The work will be completed by 2 am on Monday.
“Works at the Garden City Footbridge are almost complete. Nairobi bound section was completed on Sunday, in readiness for Monday traffic.”

Traffic has been diverted to the service lanes to give way for transportation and hoisting of the remaining steel deck section, KeNHA said in a tweet.

The two footbridges are built at a cost of Sh392 million. They will be expected to free the expressway from pedestrian traffic.

Director-General Peter Mundinia said Witeithie and Njomoko Footbridges that have opened for use, will also see the completion of works on the service lane and bus terminus constructed.
“These footbridges will blend well with the Rapid Bus initiative being implemented by the Nairobi Metropolitan Service.
The footbridges will reduce accidents and deaths on the busy highway”, Mundinia said.
