Two main motorways, Outer Ring Road and the Mbagathi Way have been closed today to pave way for ongoing pedestrian footbridge works – By Gerald Gekara.

The works being undertaken by the Kenya Urban Roads Authority are expected to be complete in due time to ease free movement of traffic.

Meanwhile, works on footbridges located at the Garden City and Kenya School of Monetary Studies are set to be completed in a month, after the installation of footbridge trusses.

According to KeNHA, once the two bridges are complete, the speed bumps that have been a major source of traffic along the highway will be removed to facilitate smooth transit to and from the CBD.

The works that were scheduled to be complete in May 2020, was hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic that hampered efforts to complete works on steel structures in the two locations.

The residents however welcomed the bridges, urging the government to hasten works, in order to save lives of pedestrians who are knocked down while trying to cross the expansive 8 lane highway.
