The Likoni floating bridge is being constructed by the China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC).
The contractor is ahead of the schedule and is expected to deliver the works by December.
Estimates indicate the foot bridge will be ready by 30th November. Its construction at the Liwatoni area in Mombasa is an advanced stage.
President Uhuru Kenyatta toured the site yesterday and termed the bridge a game-changer in the economy of Mombasa.
“Kenyans will no longer wait for ferries to access either side of Mombasa island or mainland”, Kenyatta said.
Local and international tourists visiting the Mama Ngina drive will have the eye-catching footbridge as a fresh attraction, tourism commentators say.
The bridged is designed to be retractable to allow the safe passage of gigantic ships that access Kilindini Harbour through the channel.
