Kenya Kwanza Sued For ‘Poaching’ Leaders, Holding Illegal Majority

Twelve voters have filed a lawsuit against the Kenya Kwanza party for allegedly poaching elected leaders from other parties.

The petitioners claim that the party has violated the constitution’s guarantee of people’s sovereignty in multi-party democratic states.

“The Ist respondents and its leaders have violated the basic requirements for political parties set out in Article 91 of the constitution,” the documents state.

They now want the court to declare Kenya Kwanza a minority party in the National Assembly based on the National Assembly elections on August 9, 2022.

They also want the court to rule that National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula was illegally elected and should step down.

The petitioners are blaming the registrar of political parties for failing to ensure that KKA adheres to the code of conduct for political parties set out in the political parties Act, 2011 they add that she 

“She has neglected or otherwise failed to discharge her obligation to respect, uphold and defend the constitution,” they argue
