KeRRA issues warning over fraudulent recruitment messages advertising jobs

The Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) has issued a public warning following reports of fraudulent text messages being sent to members of the public in connection with recently advertised job vacancies.

In a notice dated January 14, 2026, the authority said it had received numerous complaints from stakeholders who were targeted by scammers posing as KeRRA officials.

The fake messages direct recipients to fill out aptitude tests or provide payments as part of a supposed recruitment process.

“The authority has received numerous reports of fraudulent text messages being sent to stakeholders following the recently advertised job vacancies,” KeRRA said.

KeRRA has clarified that the messages are false and meant to defraud unsuspecting job seekers.

The authority emphasised that it does not require any payment at any stage of its recruitment process and does not conduct aptitude tests through unsolicited text messages.

“These messages are FALSE and SCAMMING in nature. Do not fill out any aptitude test purporting to be from KeRRA.  KeRRA does NOT require any payment at any stage of the recruitment process. Official communication from KeRRA is ONLY issued through our formally communicated official channels,” it added.

The roads agency further noted that all official communication is only issued through its formally recognised channels. These include its official website, www.kerra.go.ke, and its verified social media platforms, including Facebook under the name Kenya Rural Roads Authority and X (formerly Twitter) via @KeRRA_Ke.

“We urge the public to ignore any links claiming to be from KeRRA. The Authority has reported the contacts circulating this false information. For enquiries, send an email to recruitmentenquiries@kerra.go.ke@KeRRA_Ke
Kenya Rural Roads Authority www.kerra.go.ke,” KERRA said.

Members of the public have been urged to ignore any links or messages claiming to be from KeRRA and to avoid sharing personal details with unknown sources.

The authority said it has already reported the contacts circulating the false information to the relevant authorities.

KeRRA advised anyone seeking clarification or verification regarding recruitment to contact the authority directly through its official telephone line, email address, or the dedicated recruitment enquiries email.
