The Nairobi County Assembly is grieving the death of Naftali Ogola Owuor, the MCA for Korogocho Ward, who died early Thursday morning after a long illness.

The 61-year-old politician was elected in 2017 on the ticket of the Orange Democratic Movement.

Nairobi Governor Ann Mwenda Kananu expressed her profound condolences, praising Ogola as one of the most forward-thinking and hardworking members of the Nairobi County Assembly.

"On behalf of the people of Nairobi County and on my own behalf, I want to convey my deepest and heartfelt sympathies to Hon. Ogola’s family, friends and his colleagues at the County Assembly. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this trying time,” Kananu added.

Minority Whip Peter Imwatok, speaking on behalf of the ODM leadership in the parliament, praised Ogola as a trustworthy leader who was committed to the party.

"The assembly has been stunned by the unexpected death of a leader of such prominence," Imwatok remarked.

Majority Leader Abdi Hassan Guyo, for his part, said Nairobi has lost a senior leader whose charisma, despite his age, always stood out among members.

"We have lost not only a friend but also a vibrant leader who was one of the few dignified and wise elders in Nairobi's political arena. He was a dedicated and industrious leader. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family and everyone else who is mourning his tragic demise "Guyo chimed in.
