Meru Senator Mithika Linturi has been arrested over his remarks during Deputy President William Ruto’s rally on Saturday.
Linturi was escorted into a waiting police vehicle in an Eldoret hotel on Sunday morning, and driven to Nakuru county.
This follows a directive by Director of Public Prosecution Noordin Haji to the Inspector General of Police Hilary Mutyambai to investigate the inciteful remarks by Linturi.
Senator Linturi made utterances that were widely seen as inciteful to a section of Eldoret residents.
“…Watu wa Uasin Gishu musicheze na Kenya, na kile nawaomba ni kwamba madoa doa yale mulionayo hapa muweze kuondoa…’ Linturi told the Eldoret crowd on Saturday, remarks which caused uproar for what was construed as advocating for tribal segregation.
Linturi has so far issued an apology saying he was misunderstood.
