Man Charged With Stealing Sneakers Worth Ksh 10, 000 At Jamia Mosque

A salesperson has been charged with stealing a pair of Puma sneakers worth Kshs 10,000 from a worshipper during Friday 4PM prayers at Jamia mosque.

Musa Mohammed Jabir was arraigned before Milimani Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina after the mosque’s administration traced him in a white Kanzu on CCTV footage, where he was seen taking off with the sneakers.

According to the prosecution, he took one pair of blue Puma sneakers valued at Kshs 10,000 from Abdi Mohammed on diverse dates between May 16 and June 9, 2023, at Jamia Mosque along Banda street in Nairobi, within Nairobi County.

According to police records, Jabir went to four o’clock prayers last Friday and stood close to Abdi, a Mount Kenya University college student.

He informed police that on June 9th, he went to see his friend at an electronics store and then went to the mosque as is routine.

He left one shoe at the bar and only wore one. After finishing his prayers, he proceeded to look for his shoe, but he couldn’t find it.

He immediately contacted the Mosque’s management, who agreed to buy him a new pair of shoes. He was later called and told that the individual who took his shoes while he was praying had been apprehended.

According to police, Jabir, a frequent visitor to the mosque, was seen on CCTV footage in the mosque compound picking up the second shoe and walking away.

The complainant informed police that he was astonished to discover that his shoes were missing after he had completed praying.
